Dr. Chervenak examined the effect that organizational membership has on levels of political participation and social trust in New Orleans for his Ph.D. dissertation. He has written about “The Populists of Race: Perez, Rarick, and Duke” for an edited volume Louisiana’s Political Leaders, judicial involvement in Louisiana’s redistricting (Urban Lawyer), and social trust in the African-American community (under revision for Social Science Quarterly). He has conducted numerous exit polls and telephone surveys in the New Orleans area and has found the city to be a fascinating place to study politics. Since August 2002, Dr. Chervenak has been Louisiana Institute Scholar in New Orleans, LA.
