Areas of Specialization: Comparative politics, International relations, Post-Communist transitions, Environmental politics and policy

Dr. Venable’s current research projects include the impact of international organizations and NGO’s on Russian environmental policy; the gap between environmental policy and implementation in Russia and china; and foreign adoptions of children from the countries of the former Soviet Union. Her dissertation research on Russian environmental politics took her to Siberia’s Lake Baikal in the winter of 2003.

Dr. Venable received her Ph.D. in 2005 from Columbia University and has previously taught at SUNY Oswego, Brooklyn College, and John Jay College of Criminal Justice. She currently teaches classes in American and comparative politics.
